Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (French: Aeroport de Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle), CDG, also known as Roissy Airport (or just Roissy in French), is one of the world's principal aviation centres, as well as France's largest international airport. It is named after Charles de Gaulle (1890-1970), leader of the Free French Forces and founder of the French Fifth Republic, as well as the President of France from 1959 to 1969. The airport is located within portions of several communes, 25 km (16 mi) to the northeast of Paris. The airport serves as the principal hub for Air France as well as a European hub for Delta Air Lines.
It also is the world's tenth-busiest and it is Europe's second-busiest airport (after London Heathrow) in aircraft movements. In cargo traffic, the airport is the twelfth-busiest in the world and the second-busiest in Europe (after Frankfurt Airport), having handled 2,150,950 metric tonnes of cargo in 2012.
